The 17th annual Coast Guard Hockey Great White Cup saw seven teams battle it out at Centre Ice Arena in Traverse City Michigan on January 27th. Fielding talent from beginner to advanced, this is the second year the tournament has been open to other first responder teams.
The fast-paced 3v3 event is played on half ice with a single goalie defending shots from both
teams. Five goalies split time in the nets facing double the average amount of shots in a standard game. The competition was fierce with the semi final game ending in a three-man
shootout to decide which teams would battle for the Cup. Ultimately the championship game came down to local first responder team Guns N Hoses and Sector Detroit.
Sector was no newbie to the championship game as they narrowly lost to Station Grand Haven in last years tournament. However the hose handlers took the lead early and never looked back taking this years title as tournament champions.
Thanks to all involved and especially the crew from Centre Ice Arena,
