The 29th Commandant’s Cup took place from April 23–25 in Barnstable, MA, at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center. The event was highly successful, attracting over 180 players across 13 teams from Coast Guard units all over the nation. Notably, this marked the inaugural year that the Commandant’s Cup was split into two divisions based on skill level, creating new opportunities for participation and continuing to grow the Service’s hockey community.
The tournament featured outstanding hockey throughout, with exciting matchups during round robin play and intense, fiercely contested games in Saturday’s playoffs. In Division 1, the Revenue Cutter Service thwarted the New England Operators’ bid for a third consecutive championship, avenging an earlier defeat with a remarkable comeback in the final. Trailing 3–0, the Revenue Cutter Service scored four goals in the final five minutes, including the game-winner with just 41 seconds remaining in regulation. In Division 2, the Argonauts dominated Saturday’s playoff slate after finishing third in the round robin. They avenged an earlier 3–2 loss to the Sentinels with a decisive 7–2 victory in the final, claiming the inaugural Division 2 title.
We want to express our gratitude to everyone who helped make this tournament weekend so special. It’s always uplifting to see the Coast Guard hockey community come together each year—especially the bonds strengthened through shared service and time spent on the ice. A special thank you goes out to the volunteers who managed logistics, kept score, captured photos, and ran the merchandise table. Your hard work and dedication ensured the weekend ran smoothly.
We look forward to seeing everyone at the 30th Commandant’s Cup next year!
