On December 27th , Coast Guard Hockey Organization participated in a pond hockey tournament sponsored by Northwell and the New York Islanders. The event was the grand opening of The Park, presented by Northwell just outside of UBS Arena. The Park was created to increase interest in the game of hockey throughout the Long Island and Queens areas. The tournament was limited to first responders and Northwell employees and consisted of six teams. The Coast Guard Mid-Atlantic Team comprised members from Sector New York, Station Jones Beach, Atlantic Strike Team, and retired Coast Guard members who played together for the first time. The Coast Guard community grows with new recruits entering the fleet; it is encouraged to spread the word about the hockey program so that more shipmates can participate in these events to create a larger Coast Guard Hockey family.
