Team Coast Guard participated in the 3rd installation of the six-team outdoor event this past Sunday on Whitey's Pond at the Garden's Ice House in Laurel, MD. The event, organized by the veteran-led No Such Hockey team, saw a mixed group of military members, veterans, and civilians from around the National Capital Region participate in a full morning of games and fun surrounded by family and friends.
After dropping their first game in a shootout on the 90ft x 44ft rink, the team quickly meshed winning three straight and a place in the Championship game. Unfortunately, the Coast Guard path to mini rink glory thwarted by a tough Secret Service team that finished out their undefeated run at the event. Rounding out the field were the Springfield North Stars (National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency), Fort Meade No Such Hockey, and the Langley Predators (Central Intelligence Agency).
Special thanks to No Such Hockey and Justin del Rosario for putting this event together. Justin established No Such Hockey to promote sportsmanship, team building, and professionalism in the IC community. He is also the Executive Director and Founder of Gay Hockey DC, a volunteer-led hockey league that offers hockey skill development and social opportunities for members of the gay community and their straight allies to participate in and enjoy the sport of hockey in a positive and safe environment.
